Despite his status as a rookie at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, Alex Lynn believes G-Drive Racing is among the favourites for honours in the LMP2 class, declaring after a promising test at Spa-Francorchamps that the team is "as prepared as can be."

The 23-year-old Briton took a confidence-boosting first FIA World Endurance Championship victory in the WEC 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps, an event used by teams as a warmup for the 24 Hours itself, and enjoyed his first experience of around-the-clock endurance racing at the Nürburgring 24 Hours last week.

Lynn knows that Le Mans will be an altogether different challenge to the German event but is optimistic that, together with Pierre Thiriet and Roman Rusinov, the TDS Racing-run car will be a competitive force.

“It was very satisfying to get the first WEC win out of the way, especially in the dress rehearsal for Le Mans," said Lynn.  "As a team, it’s a big confidence boost and I’d like to think we go into the race as one of the possible favourites.

"What I like about the G-Drive team, and also the approach of our engineer David Leach, is every time the car is on the track, it’s like a race day. We had a fantastic test at Spa earlier last week using the Le Mans downforce aero, so we are as prepared as we can be.

"Roman and Pierre have got good form around Le Mans and, from my side, I will be as prepared as I can be. It’s all about having a clean race like we had at Spa and about keeping the car on track."

Lynn, who contested the final three WEC races of 2016 with Manor and won the Sebring 12 Hours in March, has packed a lot of sportscar racing into a very short period of time and says his extensive seat-time in different machinery has helped ease his adaption from single-seater racing.

“It’s been a bit of a dream ride so far, I’m absolutely loving every single race I do. Chopping and changing has probably been good for my form, and it means that every time you jump into a different car you know exactly what it does.

Lynn won’t be the only family member on the grid at Le Mans as his father, Shaun, a prolific historic racer, will also be contesting the Road to Le Mans event with United Autosport.

“It’s cool!” Lynn adds. “My dad’s having a lot of fun doing his LMP3 stuff, it’s really good to see him enjoying his racing!”
