Local hero Timo Bernhard set the best time in the first Free Practice session at Nürburgring this morning.  Driving the No.2 Porsche 919 Hybrid, Bernhard just eclipsed an early session time set by Sebastien Buemi in the No.8 Toyota to head the timing screens.

It was a tight 90-minute session with just 0.3 seconds covering all of the LMP1 entries.

Bruno Senna (Vaillante Rebellion), Davide Rigon (AF Corse Ferrari) and Matteo Cairoli (Dempsey-Proton Porsche) claimed the best times in their respective classes this morning.

The session was cut slightly short after a collision between two of the four class-leading cars. Julien Canal (No.31 Vaillante Rebellion) and Marvin Dienst (No.77 Dempsey-Proton Porsche) were involved in an incident at Turn 5 with just a few minutes remaining.

The second Free Practice session is scheduled to get underway at 16.15 this afternoon.
