Fittipaldi to drive Porsche LMP1 car in WEC Rookie test

The entry list for today’s WEC Rookie test at the Bahrain International Circuit sees a legendary name and newly crowned champion added.

The entry list for today’s WEC Rookie test at the Bahrain International Circuit sees a legendary name and newly crowned champion added.  Pietro Fittipaldi, who sealed the 2017 World Series Formula V8 3.5 Series on Friday afternoon, will climb aboard a Porsche 919 as he gets a chance to sample Hybrid LMP1 power for the very first time.

The 21-year-old grandson of double Formula One champion Emerson Fittipaldi won the title in Bahrain with his Lotus-run V8 car and will today drive the most powerful car of his career.

Pietro follows in the footsteps of both Emerson and his uncle Christian Fittipaldi in driving an endurance sportscar.

Also getting a chance to drive in the Rookie test, which is organised by WEC to recognise emerging talents, will be the 2017 World Series Formula V8 3.5 Series runner-up, Matevos Isaakyan from Russia. 

He will test the LMP2 ORECA of Vaillante Rebellion who yesterday won the LMP2 Teams’ title, and third-placed World Series driver, Alfonso Celis Jr will sample an LMGTE Pro car from AF Corse.  The Mexican Force India F1 reserve driver will test the Ferrari from the team which was crowned LMGTE Pro Teams’ champion after the Bapco 6 Hours of Bahrain.
