Home hero: Racing the Mexican way with Roberto Gonzalez

Roberto Gonzalez is relishing another chance to be the focus of attention amid the cauldron of passionate Mexican race fans at the fabled Autodromo Hermanos Rodrigues in a week’s time.

The CEFC Manor TRS Racing driver, who shares the No.25 ORECA-Gibson with Simon Trummer and Vitaly Petrov will undertake his second consecutive 6 Hours of Mexico City Presented by AT&T, and cannot wait for his chance to race in front of his home fans.

“The fans get really involved and the Mexican fans like to have fun, they like to cheer their drivers,” says Gonzalez.” It makes you feel something different which you don’t get anywhere else. It definitely gives you a little extra boost.”

This year the Mexican LMP2 driver has extra power with the new generation LMP2 car and believes that this will help both himself and the team reach new heights amid the high-altitude geography of his home city.

“It is going to be great. Last year we were losing around 90 horsepower because of the high altitude and it was very difficult to pass the GT cars,” recalls the CEFC Manor TRS Racing driver. “In fact I remember that the Aston Martins were quicker than the LMP2 cars on the straight.

“So, this year we are definitely going to be quicker than them which is going to be a lot better and it is also going to be more interesting for the fans,” he continues. “Obviously last year, being so close to the GTs, we were fighting them.  This year I we won’t have to do that and there will be a lot more competition going on within the LMP2 field; it is a lot closer.”
