Before that, there’s plenty to see and do around the track, with the fun fair, exhibition and support races to keep you entertained until the green flag signals the start of the qualifiers. Just make sure you leave plenty of time to get through the security checks at the car park entrance!
Competitors in the Road to Le Mans all out for pole position ahead of their first race
There are a few changes for the Road to Le Mans race this year, the race being the first step for competitors in the ACO’s pyramid of endurance racing. In fact, there are now two races and the number of entrants has been increased to 46. After free practice yesterday, competitors have two 20-minute qualifying sessions today, and will be going all-out to bag pole position. The first race will take place from 17:30 to 18:25 and is part of the Michelin Le Mans Cup. The Entry List can be found here.

For manufacturers like Toyota and Porsche, taking pole is crucial as it makes headline news across the world. The qualifying sessions are always the first signal of intent and sometimes also of the first scary moments as drivers test the limits of their cars.

This is the decisive moment. As the sun sets on the circuit, you could be forgiven for thinking that the chase for pole position is over. Think again! Every year in the last few minutes of this session, the air is thick with drama as the hot shots from the top teams do their utmost to clock the best time. It’s guaranteed to send shivers down your spine!
