Qualifying Format Re-Cap
A reminder of the FIA WEC qualifying procedure...
The start of the 2018-19 FIA World Endurance Championship Super Season at the Total 6 Hours of Spa is almost upon us as qualifying nears.
Now is the perfect time for a five-step re-familiarise of the qualifying format.
Step 1: The qualifying sessions are split between the prototype and GT classes with each having 20-minute sessions (25-mins at Spa). These are split by a five minute gap between them.
Step 2: Two drivers from each crew must each set at least one timed lap during qualifying.
Step 3: The average of the two best lap times (the best from each driver) will serve as the reference time for establishing the grid.
Step 4: Each qualifying session lasts for 20 minutes and includes a pit stop to change driver.
Step 5: The timing screens show the overall classification for the session and the average/combined best time is shown in the ‘AVERAGE’ column.
