Alex Lynn on Cadillac in Portimao: “We come here to take another step forward”
Cadillac Racing enters an intense period in its Hypercar programme as it juggles racing in both the FIA WEC and in the IMSA Weathertech series.
It is in the process of moving in to a European base in Germany for the run of races which spans Portimao to Monza over the next three months.
Those logistical and operational challenges are being met by the well-drilled team as they get a foothold in the WEC after a strong fourth place finish at Sebring last month.
“It’s the first race for us in Europe so it’s a milestone for Cadillac Racing,” says Cadillac Racing team manager, Stephen Mitas.
“We’ve got a new base which we are setting up at the moment which is a challenge but we are setting up in parallel. We’re also racing in Long Beach this weekend, so it’s an interesting logistical challenge. It’s a huge jigsaw puzzle we are putting together.”
The Cadillac Racing team has selected a super strong driver line-up for its first WEC season in the Cadillac V-Series.R Hypercar with two-time Le Mans winner Earl Bamber, Sebring and Le Mans winner Alex Lynn and experienced ex-Corvette factory racer Richard Westbrook.
Lynn, who drove for Cadillac in IMSA last season, reckons that it’s a case of so far, so good for the team and that they are targeting more improvements this weekend in Portugal.
“I think all things considered we are pretty happy (with Sebring),” said Lynn.
“The car ran really well, qualified well and raced well. I think it was just super solid considering everything was totally brand new for us with a new crew and a new operation with running in WEC.
“There is a lot of experience in IMSA but as a driving and engineering crew we knew what to come and do. But executing is another thing. I was very proud of the team and we come here and expect to take another step forward.”
