Under blue skies and warm spring sunshine a large crowd descended on Spa-Francorchamps this morning to soak up the unique and vibrant atmosphere of the WEC before the big race this afternoon.
Many of the fans were more than happy to share their enthusiasm and experience of the WEC today. Some were local, while others had travelled across Europe to see the world’s most spectacular and technologically advanced sportscars.
Loving the WEC action and a close-up look at the cars was Bruno Neirinckx and his son Rune, who have a 100% attendance record for WEC events at Spa!
“We have been to the WEC race every year since the start in 2012. We walk around the track during the race and watch from different corners,” said Bruno, as he was shown around the Strakka Racing pit box. “My son and I like Toyota team but we appreciate all of the competitors and what they achieve because the technical parts of the car are so incredible. We are very much looking forward to the race.”
Also enjoying the ambience in the paddock was Anne Tiepelmens from Ghent, who had her eight year old son Arnold with her.
“We come here from Antwerp and it is our first time to see these cars and the drivers in the WEC,” she said, “He (her son) is very excited because it is his first big race. He is a big fan of the GT Aston Martin cars because they look like his uncle's car. We think the atmosphere is really nice and in the sunshine the cars look very spectacular. Arnold is a big Nico Hülkenberg supporter.”
‘The Avener’ rocks Spa
The race fans explored the Spa paddock and Fan Area to the unmistakable beat and tempo of No1 selling DJ ‘The Avener’ who is the WEC Music Ambassador for the 2015 season. Showcasing a special set, including his no1 selling single ‘Fade Out Lines’, in the Fan Area at each of the WEC rounds this season.
As well as the ‘The Avener’, more celebrities are soaking up the atmosphere at Spa as race time approaches in the Fan and Display Areas. Jacky Ickx and Eddie Merckx are also mingling with fans and exploring the WEC pits and paddock.
