Audi and G-Drive Racing lead the way in FP2

At the close of this afternoon’s second free practice session it was Audi’s two R18 e-tron quattros which headed the time sheets, the No.1 of World Champions Tom Kristensen and Loïc Duval, joined this year by Lucas di Grassi, leading the way.

In fact, it was the Brazilian who set the fastest lap of the 90-minute practice, his time of 1:43.134 being four tenths of a second faster than the lap of André Lotterer (racing with Tréluyer-Fässler) in the No.2 Audi.  Toyota Racing’s Kazuki Nakajima in the No.7 TS040 Hybrid he shares with Alex Wurz and Stéphane Sarrazin was third in class this afternoon, his time of 1:44.097 being a second ahead of the No.20 Porsche 919 Hybrid of Mark Webber who was making his first appearance on track this afternoon.  All teams have been running through their individual set up and practice programmes during the day’s two 90-minute practice sessions.

Rebellion Racing’s two Lola-Toyotas, which are making an appearance at the 6 Hours of Silverstone ahead of the introduction of the team’s new R-One LMP1-L, straddled the No.14 Porsche 919, the No.12 Rebellion of Nick Heidfeld edging his team mate in the No.13, Fabio Leimer, by half a second.

In LMP2 G-Drive Racing was once again at the top of the timesheets at the chequered flag, Olivier Pla setting the No.26 Morgan Nissan’s best time of 1:50.401.  The Frenchman headed the KCMG and SMP Racing ORECA Nissans, the Hong Kong based team’s Richard Bradley being only three tenths of a second behind the G-Drive car. Kirill Ladygin was the fastest of the drivers in the Russian SMP entry.

A third and final practice session will take place tomorrow morning between 09:00 and 10:00 hours, followed by qualifying later in the morning. Full results from this afternoon’s practice can be found HERE.
