Bruni: I have a plan for Bahrain!
Gimmi gives an insight into his special plan for Bahrain
Gianmaria Bruni, driver of the #91 Porsche GT Team 911 RSR – 19 alongside team-mate Richard Lietz, gives an assessment on his season.
The Italian driver has a cunning plan for Bahrain and the last race of the 2022 FIA World Endurance Championship season, which is also the final race for the LM GTE Pro category.
How do you assess your season so far?
In terms of speed, I will give 7+. In terms of consistency, i will give a 4. We had too many issues. In a championship with six races, we lost big points in Sebring with the pitstop issue and we lost big points when I was in pole in Spa and Kevin missed the braking at Turn 1 meaning our race was over after the first corner.
What have been the highlights?
For sure, Le Mans. I was very happy to be able to win Le Mans with Richie and Fred after twice finishing second. This was a perfect finish of our 911 RSR - 19 project and the last win for Porsche in the Pro category In Le Mans; amazing.
What has been more challenging?
Covid-19 was the more scary situation and challenging to be fit and able for racing. We had several issues around us Including my friend Richie Lietz missing the Monza race.
Have there been any surprises in 2022?
Maybe, maybe… There’s still one race to go with the 8 Hours of Bahrain…
What’s the gameplan heading to Bahrain?
I have a plan!! Just try to win for Porsche and for me. Let’s see if it will work.
Which has been your most rewarding race?
In general Sebring first win with a Porsche in the first super season. In that race the last lap before the pit stop with slicks under the rain conditions was something special and it is where we won the race.
How well do you work with the team and your team-mates?
You should ask this question to Richard and the team… but from my side, I like to work with Richie as he’s an easy-going team-mate who is charging on, or full on, just for the race. He has a unique style. I like the Manthey team it is a shame that all of this will be over soon. But it is part of the era GT LM will finish soon and LMDh Hypercar will come in. I feel lucky and happy to have been part of this GT era with the most wins in the LMGTE Pro category in WEC.
