Chris Cumming to WEC!
Chris Cumming is relishing the prospect of tackling his second FIA WEC race at Fuji this weekend as he joins Oli Webb and Pierre Ragues in the Team SARD Morand Morgan Evo.
The Canadian made his LMP2 debut at Le Mans in June driving an OAK Racing Ligier, but this weekend swaps coupe for open cockpit as he prepares to work toward his goal of committing to a full season of WEC in 2016.
“I’m still early in the learning process but my aim is to try and do a full season next year, that is my objective as I love the WEC,” said Cumming. “The Dunlop tyres have much more grip here than in the Tudor series. I enjoy this but it takes some getting used to the aero performance you get from an LMP2 car. It leaves you wanting more, and I definitely want more.”
Cumming will get his first experience of the undulating Fuji track this weekend, and thinks that the track will be everything and more of what he is expecting.
“I did the track-walk on Thursday and the place has a great feel to it,” he said. “It is a beautiful place and it is always nice to have a circuit where there are very distinct sectors. I think it will be a very enjoyable experience this weekend, and I will take away many useful tips for the future.”
The Team SARD Morand squad and Cumming will work together for the rest of this season, and so far the fit into the team and the WEC paddock has been seamless.
“The team have made me feel very welcome and they have a good pedigree,” he says. “The WEC is really top-notch. The level of organisation and coverage it has is extremely impressive. As I keep saying, I want to be part of it in the future.”
The Swiss team and Canadian Cumming even share the same colours in their national flag, so the partnership is set to flourish for the remainder of the 2016 campaign.
