Dry Practice Sees Fastest ever WEC laps at Spa
01/05/2015

After torrential rain yesterday for both free practice sessions, the WEC paddock breathed a sigh of relief as the track remained dry for the third and final practice session of the weekend.  Andre Lotterer in the no7 Audi R18 set the fastest time of the session with a 1m57.368 on his last flying lap.

Second quickest was the no19 Porsche 919 with a 1m57.379 lap set by debutant Nico Hülkenberg. This was just 0.009 slower than the lead Audi, with the no18 Porsche third fastest with a 1m57.861 lap.

Lotterer’s lap is now the fastest WEC lap ever recorded at Spa, beating Lucas Di Grassi’s 2013 qualifying lap by over 1.5 seconds and setting up a mouth-watering battle for this afternoon’s qualifying session.

In LMP2 the no26 G-Drive Racing Ligier was the fastest car in the class with a 2m08.415, 1.1 seconds inside the current LMP2 lap record.  However, lap records can only be set during the race so the 2013 lap from Mike Conway still stands until tomorrow.

The fastest lap in LMGTE Pro was the no51 AF Corse Ferrari of Toni Vilander with a 2m18.390 lap and the fastest LMGTE Am car was the no98 Aston Martin Vantage of Pedro Lamy with a 2m19.485, both times were also well inside the current lap records set in 2013 and 2014 respectively.

Qualifying for the WEC 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps will begin at 18h00 today with LMGTE Pro and Am followed by LMP1 and LMP2 at 18h35.
