FIA WEC Qualifying: How it works

FIA WEC Qualifying: How it works
19/04/2014

While all the cars are on track together for the free practice sessions, qualifying is split into LMGTE Pro and Am (which takes place from 12:00 to 12:25 hrs) followed by LMP1 and LMP2 (at 12:35-13:00 hrs).

A reminder about the qualifying format which differs from other championships.  With endurance racing being very much a 'team' sport and the regulations requiring a minimum of two and a maximum of three drivers in each car, it was decided last year that qualifying should recognise this fact.

Two drivers from each car are nominated for qualifying and the average of the four best lap times (the best two of each driver) will serve as the reference time for establishing the grid.  It's a full team effort!
