Fuji FP1: Fuoco fastest for Ferrari

No.28 JOTA quickest in LMP2; No.77 Dempsey Proton Porsche Leads LMGTE Am. Below are the main headlines from a damp 6 Hours of Fuji, round six of the FIA WEC.

Hypercar 

  • Antonio Fuoco takes top spot in Hypercar for No.50 Ferrari AF Corse as he laps in a 1m35.649s in a wet but drying first free practice session at Fuji Speedway 
  • Fuoco sets a flaying lap as track starts to dry after early heavy rain and his lap is a massive 2.6 seconds ahead of the sister Ferrari 499P driven by Antonio Giovinazzi 
  • No.94 TotalEnergies Peugeot is third as Gustavo Menezes gets to within 0.4s of the Ferraris 
  • Porsche Penske places fourth and fifth with the No.6 car driven by Laurens Vanthoor heading the Michael Christensen driven No.5 Porsche 963 
  • Toyota Gazoo Racing are sixth and seventh as the No.7 GR010 leads the No.8 car 
  • No.93 Peugeot TotalEnergies 9X8 Hypercar headed the times in the fully wet period of the session but then slips down to eighth position as conditions dry 
  • No.2 Cadillac V.Series R Hypercar driven by Alex Lynn, Earl Bamber and Richard Westbrook and the No.99 Proton Porsche 963 Hypercar end session rounding out the top ten 
  • Hertz Team JOTA Porsche and the Floyd Vanwall entry completes the Hypercar field 

LMP2 

  • No.28 Jota Oreca-Gibson that won at Monza leads the 90-minute session as Oliver Rasmussen peaks with a 1m40.781s lap 
  • The gold LMP2 car headed the No.9 Prema entry as Filip Ugran set a 1m42.661s best 
  • No.23 United Autosports, Vector Sport and Inter Europol Competition cars complete the top five 
  • Robin Frijns in the No.31 WRT Oreca-Gibson lead the way in fully wet conditions just ahead of the Charles Milesi driven No.36 Alpine ELF Team car but they dropped to eighth and sixth in LMP2 respectively  
  • Title leading No.41 WRT car of Robert Kubica, Louis Deletraz and Rui Andrade ends the session a lowly ninth

LMGTE Am  

  • No.77 Dempsey Proton Racing Porsche leads the way in LMGTE Am as Mikkel Pedersen sets best lap of 1m43.538s 
  • David Rigon ensured that No.54 AF Corse was the highest placed Ferrari with a 1m47.198s best 
  • Project 1 AO Porsche had 'monstered' the opposition in the early full wet laps as Matteo Cairoli set an initial fastest lap of 1m47.230s 
  • The 'Rexy' liveried Porsche 911 RSR-19 placed third ahead of the 
  • Richard Mille AF Corse Ferrari of Alessio Rovera, Luis Perez Companc and Lilou Wadoux 
  • Completing the top six was the local favorites D'Station Aston Martin and the similar No.98 Northwest AMR run by Heart of Racing 
  • Championship winners No.33 Corvette Racing and the No.25 ORT by TF Sport Aston Martin only complete 18 and 17 laps respectively after spending majority of session in pits
