It's race day at Monza!

The WEC 6 Hours of Monza, round five of FIA WEC, will get underway at 12h30 local time in Italy this afternoon.

Thirty-six cars will tackle the 5.793-kilometre Monza circuit which is famous for its long high-speed straights where Hypercars reach speeds in the region of 318kph and nearly 60% of the lap is traveled with a fully-open throttle. During each tour of the circuit, Hypercar drivers will shift gears 36 times.

Thousands of people descended on Autodromo Nazionale Monza yesterday with a packed pitlane for the drivers' autograph signing and to see Kamui Kobayashi put the Toyota GR010 Hybrid Hypercar on the top spot for today's race. Pole position for Toyota saw the team take one point in the all-important battle for the 2023 Hypercar battle which now sees the Japanese manufacturer 19 points ahead of Ferrari in the overall standings.

In LMP2 it's Team WRT that starts on pole position. After their qualifying victory yesterday, the Belgian team now have five points separating them and Inter Europol Competition in second place. United Autosports sits third, 21 points behind category leaders WRT.

The all-female Iron Dames crew will lead the 12 LMGTE Am crews at the start of today's race after Sarah Bovy put the Porsche 911 RSR – 19 on pole after her blisteringly quick lap time.
