Race day in Bahrain – tune in now!
The final round of the 2019 - 2020 FIA World Endurance Championship, the 8 Hours of Bahrain, gets underway in one hour’s time (14h00 local time).
Today’s race will go down in history as it marks the final time that the iconic LMP1 car, including the hugely-successful Toyota TS050 HYBRID, will form the WEC’s headline category. All eyes will be on the No. 7 and the No. 8 Toyota Gazoo Racing crews as they battle it out for the 2020 LMP FIA World Endurance Drivers’ Championship title. Only six points separate them going into today’s race.
After winning last night’s qualifying, the No. 7 crew driven by Jose Maria Lopez, Kamui Kobayashi and Mike Conway will start today’s race from pole position. A total of 38 points are available for the winners of each category in Bahrain, meaning several titles will be won and lost today…
Meanwhile, Porsche leads the LMGTE Pro field from pole today with the No. 92 Porsche 911 RSR – 19 ahead of the No. 95 Aston Martin Racing duo of Nicki Thiim and Marco Sorensen. The Dane Train are currently 15 points ahead of the sister No. 97 car in the drivers’ standings so it will be a huge intra-team duel between the Aston Martin Vantage AMR entries to determine who will clinch the 2020 GTE World Endurance Drivers' Championship. There is also a mathematical chance that No. 51 AF Corse Ferrari driver James Calado can snatch the title should either of the AMR entries falter.
Starting from the front of the LMP2 field will be the No. 22 United Autosports entry after securing pole for the fourth time this season. Meanwhile, LMGTE Am sees the No. 98 Aston Martin Racing crew start from pole. Both the drivers’ and teams’ titles in LMGTE Am will be decided today in Bahrain so it’s all to play for in the desert!
