Season Four of WEC Full Access races into view
The fourth season of the FIA World Endurance Championship’s Full Access docuseries is set to première on the FIA WEC App in two weeks’ time (4 April), as the engaging and insightful behind-the-scenes production continues to grow in popularity and acclaim.
We all love the sights and sounds of motorsport, the incredible high-tech machinery, the roar of the engines and the tyres screeching at their limits. However, there’s one area that has always posed a challenge – how to show what goes on inside the cockpit and behind garage doors. On-board cameras offer a glimpse into the driver’s world, and radio messages let us hear a hint of internal communications, but there is a lot that typically remains shrouded in secrecy.
There was clearly an appetite for more footage, and in FIA WEC, there is never a shortage of stories to tell, with even the most seemingly seamless races often masking myriad dramas. With the focus of the live TV transmission quite rightly on the track, such stories looked likely to be lost forever – until Full Access changed the game.
Complementing the main broadcast and produced by a small yet dedicated crew – working hard to turn each programme around before the next event – the series transports viewers to the very heart of the action in the sport’s most exciting world championship.
By following the narrative from drivers’ arrival at the circuit, through free practice and qualifying to the inevitable highs-and-lows of the all-important race, it keeps the story of the season fresh in fans’ minds from one round to the next. Not only that, but by purposely spotlighting the human aspect of the sport, it elevates FIA WEC’s appeal to a whole new demographic.
Debuting in 2022, year-on-year views for this deep dive into the championship’s key players and polemics have climbed exponentially. From approximately 8,500 views per episode in its inaugural season, total views exceeded one million in 2023 – equating to an average of 163,000 – before last year shifted the goalposts once again.
More than 2.7 million views over the course of the 2024 campaign – averaging out to 300,000+ per episode – culminated in a new record in Bahrain, as no fewer than 563,000 fans tuned in to catch up on all the salient talking-points from a thrillingly unpredictable title-decider. And with an avid and appreciative audience, those numbers continue to grow.
Now firmly established as an integral element of FIA WEC coverage, the greatest strength of the Full Access franchise is arguably its honesty. Competitors’ passion for the sport invariably shines through, no matter their results, as does the camaraderie and respect between members of the paddock.
Every episode remains available on YouTube and the FIA WEC App, alongside all the hour-long race reviews, enabling fans to stay fully up-to-speed with the major moments both on and off-track. What’s more, the advent of Aston Martin’s Valkyrie Hypercar and Mercedes-AMG in the LMGT3 category means Full Access – like the championship itself – looks set to go from strength-to-strength in 2025.
The first instalment of the season – reflecting on last month’s curtain-raising Qatar 1812km – will be released exclusively for subscribers to watch on the FIA WEC App on Friday, 4 April, before being added to the series’ YouTube channel a few days later.
