The fifth episode of WEC Full Access will air this evening (19 July) giving fans behind-the-scenes insights from a drama-filled 6 Hours of Monza, round five of the FIA World Endurance Championship.
The episode will premiere on the FIA WEC YouTube channel from 9pm CEST / 8pm BST tonight (Wednesday).
The episode will also be available in French HERE.
Giving fans a fascinating insight into the FIA WEC’s biggest teams and drivers, WEC Full Access covers everything from team briefings to heated mid-race discussions. It is the ultimate YouTube series which documents the most private areas of the WEC paddock.
Episode five starts in Milan as Ferrari AF Corse drivers James Calado, Antonio Giovinazzi and Alessandro Pier Guidi chat about their recent 24 Hours of Le Mans win over pizza with WEC reporter, Louise Beckett, including the drama of the final hour. “It was the worst moment of my life!,” reveals Calado when discussing the moment their 499P Hypercar would not restart in the pits.
There’s also plenty of behind-the-scenes footage of the new Proton Competition Porsche 963 as it made its debut and the rollercoaster of emotions for its drivers including first-time seat fittings, leading the race and the heart-stopping moment as the car stopped on track and was forced to retire. WEC Full access also covers the aftermath of other incidents on track, including the collision between Toyota Gazoo Racing and the D’Station entry plus the team apologies that followed. We also see in garage frustrations from Hertz Team JOTA and its driver Antonio Felix da Costa following a breakdown in the car comms and a steering wheel issue.
Finally, there’s celebratory tears of joy from the Peugeot garage as the 9X8 Hypercar claimed its first podium – one year after the French team’s debut. It was also big celebrations for Corvette Racing who secured enough points to become the 2023 LMGTE Am champions. Further down the pitlane, however, it was disappointment for Team WRT and Robin Frijns who was forced to retire the No. 31 car with an engine issue as team-mates Habsburg and Gelael are seen comforting the Dutchman in the garage.
The on-track action is coupled with valuable insight from 2014 FIA WEC champion Anthony Davidson who, alongside experienced pitlane reporter Louise Beckett, explain what it’s really like to compete in the world’s most prestigious sportscar series.
Throughout the season, WEC Full Access will take viewers inside the stories as they happened, letting fans experience the often stressful, but always entertaining, world of endurance racing… Don’t miss it!
