4 Hours of Silverstone explained
Fans travelling to Silverstone this weekend will be treated to two 4-hour endurance races, with the ELMS race on Saturday and the FIA WEC race on Sunday.
The FIA World Endurance Championship and European Le Mans Series have shared the event at Silverstone since 2013 but this is the first time the WEC race has been four hours in length, having been six hours previously.
So, what are the main differences between the two races?
Classes
The WEC has four classes, two prototype (LMP1 and LMP2) and two GTE (LMGTE Pro and LMGTE Am). The ELMS has three classes, two prototypes (LMP2 and LMP3) and one GTE (LMGTE).
Drivers and Teams
Both the WEC and ELMS feature high profile drivers and teams including 24 Hours of Le Mans Champions, World Champions past and present and former F1 drivers.
The WEC grid features manufacturer teams (Toyota, Porsche, Ferrari and Aston Martin) with all pro driver line ups. In LMP2 and LMGTE Am the driver line ups are a combination of professional and non-professional drivers.
The ELMS teams field a combination of professional and non-professional drivers in all categories.
Size of the Grid
The WEC grid will have 31 cars. The ELMS race will feature a grid of 39 cars.
Paddock
The WEC paddock is behind The Wing. The ELMS teams are situated in the National paddock. Both paddocks are open to the public and will feature driver autograph sessions and pitwalks during the weekend.

The WEC grid walk is restricted to gridwalk pass holders only. As in all race weekends, the ELMS grid walk will be open to the public free of charge.
