Statement from Gérard Neveu on behalf of the FIA WEC
Don Panoz – 1935-2018
Everyone within the world endurance family is deeply saddened to hear about the passing today of Don Panoz, the founder of the American Le Mans Series and a huge figure in endurance racing.
His enthusiasm for sports car racing over the last 20 years was unparalleled, and his love for the unique atmosphere at the 24 Hours of Le Mans led to his considerable involvements over this time alongside many of our competitors.
Don lived and breathed the ‘spirit of Le Mans’ in North America, and was an unforgettable ambassador for our sport. He inspired many of us in motorsport, and his passion and vision will remain as an example to us all.
He will be much missed and on behalf of the entire WEC paddock we send our condolences to his family and many friends.
