Did you know that the Wallabies and All Blacks got together in Shanghai ahead of today’s 2015 Rugby World Cup Final in the UK?
Porsche Team’s Mark Webber donned the yellow shirt of the Australian national Rugby Union team and his Antipodean team mate in the FIA World Endurance Championship, Brendon Hartley, sported the All Blacks’ famous colours. Keeping them apart before the kick off was German Timo Bernhard, the third member of the WEC championship-leading line up. The 6 Hours of Shanghai takes place tomorrow (Sunday, 11am local), by which time the result will be known. May the best team win!
Brendon Hartley: “I guess Jonah Lomu used to be everyone’s hero as I was growing up, but to be honest the whole team are heroes. They are the most successful sports team in the world and everyone in New Zealand is incredibly proud to be associated with them. We’re humble winners but if the Aussies win tomorrow I’m going to get a fair amount of stick from Mark. There’s a fair few Aussies and Kiwis in the team so we’re pretty even and hopefully tomorrow we’ll be talking!”
Mark Webber: “David Campese is a big hero of mine but that whole generation was special for me with Michael Lynagh, John Eales and all those the guys. The previous world cup was special and it’s great for Rugby Union in Australia that we’re in the final again. It’s very competitive now as a lot of the Northern hemisphere guys have come on a lot in the last decade. Now the two big sides are left and there’s a lot of pressure tonight. There’s been quite a lot of banter in the team between all the Aussies and Kiwis, but I think everyone’s a bit sheepish at the moment. We’re all a bit nervous; we only want one result for our teams.”
