Martin moves to Mercedes-AMG with Iron Lynx drive for 2025
Hot on the heels of his announcement as a Mercedes-AMG Performance Driver, it has been confirmed that Maxime Martin will join Iron Lynx for the 2025 FIA World Endurance Championship campaign.
It was revealed last month that Mercedes-AMG will return to the international pinnacle of endurance racing and the 24 Hours of Le Mans next season following a 26-year absence, with a brace of LMGT3 cars to be run by podium-finishing Italian outfit, Iron Lynx.
One of them will be piloted by Martin, a driver boasting an exceptional résumé in GT circles, having achieved success in some of the world’s most demanding round-the-clock races – including an overall win in the 24 Hours of Spa in 2016 and GTE Pro class victory in the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2020.
The Belgian triumphed twice in FIA WEC’s LMGTE Pro category in an Aston Martin in 2018/19 and 2019/20, and this year, he raced to a pair of rostrum finishes alongside motorcycling legend Valentino Rossi and Ahmad Al Harthy in a BMW M4 LMGT3 with Team WRT.
Having competed and excelled in myriad championships and environments around the globe, Martin will be a key asset for Iron Lynx’s 2025 bid, and is eager to get started.
“I’m very happy to join Iron Lynx for the 2025 FIA WEC season,” the 38-year-old enthused. “Mercedes-AMG is a new manufacturer for me and for the team, and I’m definitely looking forward to the year ahead. Iron Lynx has a remarkable history, and I have been team-mates with [Team Principal and CEO] Andrea Piccini in the past. It will be special to be back with him again. I can’t wait to get started in Qatar and to try to win some races!”
“I have always held Maxime in very high regard,” added Piccini, arguing that the addition of Martin to the driver roster will provide extra focus and motivation for the entire team. “We have a friendly relationship, and we also had the chance to race together in 2013, finishing second in the 24 Hours of Nürburgring. He’s a really strong driver, extremely quick, and particularly able to master challenging conditions.
“I have seen him do exceptional things throughout the years without any mistakes, which makes him a top contender, especially in long-distance races. If we add his experience and team-player ability, I honestly think he’s one of the best possible choices for any team, and I’m proud to welcome him to Iron Lynx for 2025.”
The forthcoming campaign will get underway with the Qatar 1812km on 28 February.
