‘Meet the Legends’: Why legendary brands take on the WEC challenge

A new dynamic and authoritative documentary series giving detailed insights into each of the major automotive manufacturers competing in the 2024 FIA World Endurance Championship (FIA WEC) will be broadcast later this year.

  • Eight-part documentary series to chronicle major manufacturers’ WEC philosophies

‘Meet the Legends’ is an eight-part series which will major on telling the sporting, business and aspirational stories of some of the world’s leading racing brands, digging down into their philosophies of why they chose endurance sportscar racing.

The WEC has seen an upsurge in recent years thanks to an innovative, stable and cost-effective set of global regulations that have been embraced by both well-established manufacturers with history in endurance, and new ambitious brands aiming to carve new stories.

This cocktail of positive competition and technical ingenuity has laid out one of the deepest and most competitive grids in world motorsport for many years.

Explaining the dynamics of why and how the manufacturers go racing is majored upon in this series with senior members of the organisations, star drivers and industry experts describing what each of them bring to the global racing challenge.

The series gets the opinions of key decision makers in the WEC paddock. These, allied to inputs from top drivers, management and endurance experts sees assorted opinions and knowledge present a detailed description on each brand racing in the Hypercar category.

The historical aspects of each manufacturer is also explored, giving valuable background on why the brands are so respected among fans, drivers and sportscar experts alike.

The FIA WEC’s CEO Frederic Lequien said that the dawn of a new multiple manufacturer era in the WEC recently via the Hypercar regulations was “a celebration of commitment from some of the biggest names in automotive and motorsport industries, so we felt this era needed a deep dive to understand what makes these iconic brands so competitive.”

“The level of dedication is manifested on the track. We see this race by race and lap by lap. But behind the scenes there are deep foundations and whole levels of technical, sporting and marketing excellence that go unseen.”

“Meet the Legends breaks that down to give the viewer an understanding of each brand and the unique characteristics that they bring to the WEC. The diversity among them is something that should be celebrated and these episodes do that with insight and strong background,” concluded Lequien.

Stéphane Andriolo, ACO and 24 Hours of Le Mans Sales and Marketing Director, added: “Today, endurance racing is used to promote much more than just new technology, it is also about the brands, what they stand for and how the public perceive them. The 24 Hours of Le Mans and the FIA World Endurance Championship provides the ideal platform for major manufacturers to tell their story. The ‘Meet the Legends’ series will allow viewers to look behind the scenes and understand why some of the world’s leading automotive manufacturers choose to race with the FIA WEC.”

The series will begin this November with Ferrari opening the series. It will be the perfect way for fans to top up on their WEC viewing and passion as the season draws to a close and the anticipation starts to build for another thrilling WEC season in early 2025 at the opening Qatar 1812kms.
