Official launch of the Green GT
The Green GT hydrogen-powered electric prototype was presented yesterday at a press conference on the eve of the Test Day for the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2012, in the presence of Pierre Fillon, the new President of ACO, who announced that although this year it is the Nissan-DeltaWing that has the invitation reserved for innovative cars, the Green GT will get the '56th pit' for the 24 Hours of Le Mans 2013.
The test programme of the Green GT will begin the week after the 24 Hours of Le Mans and will continue for the months of July and August, with the goal of demonstration laps in the prelude to the 6 Hours Silverstone at the end of August. Development work is provided by the Italian Christian Pescatori, who has participated in the venture from the beginning. An announcement on the composition of the diver crew for 2013 may be made at Silverstone.
The declared objective of the project, as stated by Jean-François Weber, CEO, and Christopher Schwartz, Program Manager, is to participate in a FIA World Endurance Championship race leading up to the Le Mans 2013 to prepare for the 24 hours in June.
Some partners are already known. Dunlop will furnish tyres, while Air Liquide be providing the hydrogen for two tanks containing 4 kg, which are expected to provide 40 minutes of running on the "Circuit des 24 Hours". The chassis was designed by WR (Welter Racing), who have had many previous entries at Le Mans.
The Green GT has been given the opportunity by the ACO, in the person of its President Pierre Fillon who sees this as a way to the future. See you at Silverstone, the third round of the FIA World Endurance Championship to be held on August 26th, for the first laps of the prototype, with an unmissable huge air intake on its roof.
