Official Rookie Test underway as Rossi makes WEC debut

The official FIA WEC Rookie Test is well underway with several drivers completing stints in the first morning session including seven-time MotoGP Champion Valentino Rossi.

Rossi is testing the WRT Oreca 07 Gibson and clocked a time of 1m55.728s, just 0.760s behind Charles Weets who is also in the LMP2 cockpit today.

Top of the overall times this morning was Will Stevens in the JOTA run Porsche 963, the Briton posting a time of 1m48.625s. Stevens then handed over to Norman Nato who got his first taste of Hypercar machinery.

Alex Lynn was second quickest in the Cadillac who is sharing driving duties in the V.Series R today alongside official WEC Rookie Nico Varrone.

Elsewhere, Ferrari saw three drivers - Lilou Wadoux, Robert Schwartzman and Alessandro Pier Guidi - behind the wheel of the 499P Hypercar. It is Wadoux's second test in a Hypercar having driven the Toyota GR010 Hybrid at last year's rookie test.

The afternoon session will run for a further three hours at the Bahrain International Circuit. Follow along with living timings HERE.
