For G-Drive Racing driver Ricardo Gonzalez the Lone Star Le Mans meeting this week is a home race. The Mexican is as close to him as he will get on the 2015 WEC calendar and he is keen to ensure that some home support from fans and his family will see he and team mates Gustavo Yacaman and Pipo Derani consolidate their hard-earned runner-up position in LMP2.
“It is a local race and it is nice to be here and be in the same time zone as my home country, Mexico,” said Gonzalez. “We get some good media coverage from Mexico here and for me it allows me to have more time to be at home. It is nice to also see some Mexican race fans here and I hope we can give them something to cheer about on Saturday night.”
Gonzalez has enjoyed a competitive season so far in 2015. A fine win at Silverstone opened his campaign in the Ligier JS P2-Nissan, and then further podium placings at Spa and Nurburgring have seen a good points' haul, sufficient enough to place second in the title standings.
“Here at COTA we are hopeful of another good performance,” said Gonzalez. “I think the competition in LMP2 is as hard as it has ever been. We are doing a good championship though and if we keep getting the big points then we will continue to keep the pressure on the KCMG guys.”
