Spa FP2: Ferrari heads Hypercar times with Giovinazzi flyer
WRT fastest in LMP2; No.54 AF Corse takes LMGTE Am Fastest Lap but then crashes...
Below are the main headlines from FP2 at Spa-Francorchamps.
Hypercar
- Ferrari AF Corse top the times in the second 90-minute free practice session of the day in preparation for Saturday’s TotalEnergies 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps.
- Antonio Giovinazzi rockets to a 2m01.871s lap in the No.51 Ferrari AF Corse 499P he shares with James Calado and Alessandro Pier Guidi.
- Cadillac are third as No.5 V-Series.R driven by Alex Lynn, who sets time of 2m03.338s
- Fastest Toyota is fourth as No.8 Toyota GR010 Hybrid Hypercar driven by Ryo Hirakawa concentrates on long runs.
- Peugeot TotalEnergies fifth as the No.93 Peugeot 9X8 laps in 2m05.180s with Jean-Eric Vergne at the wheel.
- Glickenhaus sixth and fastest non-Hybrid Hypercar as Olivier Pla laps in 2m05.545s.
- No.7 Toyota Gazoo Racing GR010 Hybrid Hypercar places seventh. Jose Maria Lopez sets the time.
- Second Peugeot 9X8 driven by Nico Mueller, Loic Duval and Gustavo Menezes is eighth.
- Hertz Team Jota continue to gain experience of all-new gold Porsche 963 Hypercar as Will Stevens and Yifei Ye get time at wheel and place ninth in Hypercar. Their teammate Antonio Felix da Costa not due to arrive at track until third free practice session tomorrow.
- Floyd Vanwall complete top ten as team continues to learn about new Gibson powered Hypercar.
- Trouble for Porsche as both of its 963 Hypercars stop on track with technical issues. Team investigating problems which are suspected to be gearbox for the No.5 and hybrid problems for the No.6.
- No.3 Cadillac Racing also stops on circuit with Renger van der Zande at the wheel of yellow Cadillac V-Series.R.
LMP2
- Team WRT top times on home ground as No.31 aims to reprise its 2022 success.
- Robin Frijns puts in the fastest lap with a 2m06.108s best.
- Frijns’ time is 0.4s faster than Filipe Albuquerque’s in the No.22 United Autosports Oreca-Gibson
- Third in LMP2 is the No.41 WRT entry as Louis Deletraz peaks on a 2m06.633s best.
- Inter Europol Competition again take fourth place with Fabio Scherer setting the laps.
LMGTE Am
- No.54 AF Corse Ferrari sits ahead of the times as Davide Rigon claims a 2m15.736s lap.
- But session ends early after incident at Raidillon with the No.21 and No.54 AF Corse Ferrari driven by Diego Alessi at time. Thomas Flohr was in No.54 car.
- Second in session is the Kessel Racing entered car as Daniel Serra again takes a quick time in the Swiss run Ferrari. Serra’s best of 2m16.786s is just over a second in arrears of Rigon’s flyer.
- GR Racing is the leading Porsche 911 RSR-19 with Riccardo Pera stopping the clocks on 2m16.993.
