Endurance racing legend, Hans-Joachim Stuck, was enjoying the pre-race carnival atmosphere of the WEC paddock at Nurburgring as he got set to wave the green flag and start the 6 Hours of Nurburgring at 13.00 local time this afternoon.
The two-times Le Mans winner was catching up with old friends and meeting the current generation of sportscar aces before undertaking his duties as the honoured Grand Marshal for the fourth round of the WEC today.
“It is an honour to be asked to be the Grand Marshal, especially here at Nurburgring where there is such a great history of endurance racing,” said Stuck. “I think the numbers of spectators coming in today’s shows the appreciation of the WEC to bring the race back here.
Stuck, who drove both Porsche and Audi race cars during his illustrious career, went on to declare his love of the WEC, stating: “There is so much going on here for the fans before the race, I can feel the atmosphere when I walk in to the paddock. It brings racing close to the people and means the fans can see and talk to their heroes. This is what true racing is all about, as well as the technical challenge which I have to say is perfect in the WEC. This works fantastically and I think the fans coming here today will be fascinated by this element but they will also see a lot of relevance to their own cars and to the future of what they will drive too.”
