Alex Davison completes Gulf Racing line up

Alex Davison has been confirmed as the third driver for the No.86 Gulf Racing Porsche 911 RSR for the 2018-19 FIA World Endurance Championship Super Season.

The Australian from Melbourne, who will be making his debut in the Championship, joins Ben Barker and team owner Mike Wainwright in the Porsche entry and it marks the first time in a decade that he has competed in Europe.  Davison raced at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2008 and the European Le Mans Series that same year, finishing second in the GT2 Class alongside co-driver Marc Lieb.  He brings a great deal of Porsche experience to the team, and got his first taste of the latest 911 RSR at a recent (wet) few days of testing in Vallelunga, Italy.

“There are very few opportunities in your career where the phone rings and such an opportunity arises. The call-up to race in the WEC was very much out of the blue and it’s literally a dream come true. I never truly thought I’d have the chance to race in Europe or at Le Mans again and now it’s becoming a reality,” said the former Supercars driver.

Davison will be one of two Australian Porsche champions competing in the FIA WEC, with 2016 champion and Porsche Young Driver Matt Campbell entered in the LMGTE Am class with Dempsey-Proton Racing.
