Stéphane Sarrazin to join SMP Racing
SMP Racing has today confirmed that Stéphane Sarrazin will join the team for the WEC Super Season alongside the previously announced Vitaly Petrov and Mikhail Aleshin. No other drivers have yet been announced.
Sarrazin has been released from his Toyota Gazoo Racing contract in order to campaign the BR Engineering BR1-AER which has been extensively tested ahead of the season.
Toyota has thanked the Frenchman, who has chosen to leave the team for a new challenge in the FIA WEC, especially for the significant role he played in the manufacturer’s 2014 World Championship.
In total, the 42-year-old competed in 37 races for Toyota, winning three times and finishing on the podium on 17 occasions, including second places at Le Mans in 2013 and 2016. He twice finished third in the Drivers’ World Championship.
I am really proud to announce that I will compete in the @FIAWEC super season with @SMP_Racing. Thanks a lot to @Toyota_Hybrid for the fantastic time spent together. #Bigpush pic.twitter.com/PPQKUTGS9a
