T-Minus 2 Hours for Endurance Legends to be Made!
The atmosphere is building for the 90th running of the 24 Hours of Le Mans......
The support races have ceased. The marshals are positioned. The crowd have settled in their places in their favourite parts of the legendary Circuit del Sarthe for the 90th running of the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
Drivers are primed, focused and equipped as the Grille de Depart festivities begin.
Yesterday’s parade suddenly seems an age ago. Yet the cheers and fun of the city still seem to echo the few miles down to the south and directly to the track.
62 cars will start at Le Mans 2022, and it will be a race record, exceeding the 61 competitors from 2019 and 2021.
The anticipation is high, the sun is hot and the ambience is growing in electricity as drivers and teams are celebrated one last time amid the colour and motion of the grid.
At 16.00 local time, as the cars slowly negotiate the Ford Chicane, there will be a momentary pause of sound before the famous ceremonial Tricolore will fly and the greatest endurance race of them all begins.
That’s when the camaraderie and the jollity becomes fierce but respectful competition. Up for grabs is endurance immortality and the chance to share the success with thousands underneath the famous overhanging Le Mans podium.
99 years on from the very first race a new pantheon of endurance legends will be created at 16.00 on Sunday afternoon.
The third round of the 2022 FIA World Endurance Championship will also see a bigger picture emerging of who might collate decisive points in the standings.
It’s all to play for. It’s all to fight for. It’s the greatest challenge of human and technical spirit in endurance motorsport.
