Toyota Gazoo Racing signs Thomas Laurent as test driver
Frenchman Thomas Laurent will join Toyota Gazoo Racing as the team’s official test and reserve driver for the 2019-2020 FIA World Endurance Championship season.
Currently third in the WEC Drivers’ Championship, Laurent has spent the current Super Season racing for Rebellion Racing in the No. 3 car where he took the win at the 6 Hours of Silverstone alongside Gustavo Menezes and then team-mate, Mathias Beche. Laurent will continue with Rebellion Racing for next month’s 24 Hours of Le Mans before taking on his new role with Toyota Gazoo Racing.
“I’d like to thank everyone who has made this possible,” said 21-year-old Laurent, who tested the TS050 Hybrid back in 2017 at a WEC rookie test in Bahrain.
“My focus at the moment is to enjoy a successful end to the WEC season with Rebellion Racing at Le Mans, but naturally I am looking forward to driving the TS050 Hybrid again and being part of a World Championship-winning team.”
This year’s WEC Super Finale, the 24 Hours of Le Mans, takes place in just over two weeks’ time (15-16 June).
