What the drivers said post Qualifying
Yesterday's Qualifying session saw Fernando Alonso clock the fastest ever lap at Sebring and Porsche take pole in both GTE classes. Below is what the drivers had to say.
Fernando Alonso – No.8 Toyota Gazoo Racing, Toyota TS 050 HYBRID
“It was a nice lap in a nice car but with low fuel, new tyres and racing at night it is always challenging - so this feels good. It is never easy to go out on to the circuit and find the references but I did a good lap. I think there were a couple of tenths available here and there so I thought a 1m39s lap was possible but not this time.”
Stéphane Richelmi - No.38 Jackie Chan DC Racing, Oreca-Gibson
“It is always good with low fuel and new tyres to go and prove the pace of the car. It felt really good and the team is working really well because after practice one we were a bit lost and we were missing some pace. We skipped the test of last weekend and the track has evolved a lot with much more rubber on it but we have now managed to find a really good car.”
Michael Christensen – No.92 Porsche GT Team, Porsche 911 RSR
“It was great to be coming away from qualifying in P1. The car was great, it was much better than yesterday where we were struggling a bit. The team just did a great job turning the car around and we just tried to put everything together in one lap. Of course there are things here and there that can be optimised but I was very happy with my lap and in the end the car was great to drive. I am happy to come away with one more point.”
Matt Campbell - No.77 Dempsey-Proton Racing, Porsche 911 RSR
“I am very delighted to be on pole this evening. We haven’t had as many laps and to go out and to go out and do it on the first lap is a really good feeling. Obviously this puts us in a good position for tomorrow. Christian (Ried) did a fantastic job; for sure it is very close behind us but it is a fantastic starting spot for the race.”
The 1000 Miles of Sebring kicks off in just over 90 minutes time (4:00 pm local time).
