It’s well known that we have a lot of very talented drivers in the FIA WEC paddock, but did you know that quite a few of them are now also motor sport commentators?

When their racing schedule allows, Toyota Racing’s Alex Wurz and Anthony Davidson are busy at F1 Grands Prix for Austria’s ORF and Britain’s Sky TV channels respectively, and Alex Brundle of OAK Racing has followed in his father Martin’s footsteps and provided excellent analysis and comment on GP3 and GP2 races for British TV channels.

Current points’ leader of the FIA Endurance Cup for GT Drivers, Toni Vilander, has taken on TV duties this year for Finland’s MTV channel (not the music channel!) and has found it to be a whole new challenge.

“I’ve been racing GTE cars for a long time now so don’t have to think so hard about how I prepare for races.  Doing television is very different and we are a very small team with MTV so I have to commentate, do one-to-one interviews, features and…well, everything!  We cover the whole field but our focus is obviously the Finnish drivers and I’m very proud of what we do.  The F1 paddock is a strange world whereas the WEC is very familiar, friendly and we have a lot of fans around the world who like this type of racing.”
