The first 2017 laps have now been completed and all 60 competitors have been out on track.  Here's a round up of the key points.

  • While testing laps are not always representative of ultimate qualifying or race pace, Toyota is showing that it means business by filling the top three places in the classification.
  • Fastest time of the day so far of 3:20.778 set by Kazuki Nakajima in the No.8 Toyota TS050 HYBRID ahead of the No.9 and No.7 sister Toyotas.
  • No.2 Porsche 919 Hybrid now undergoing an engine change due to an oil leak,
  • In LMP2 Mathias Beche set the pace in the No.13 Vaillante Rebellion ORECA 07 Gibson for much of the morning before being beaten to the top of the time sheets in the dying minutes of the session by Andre Negrão in the No.35 Signatech Alpine Matmut A470.
  • All the other FIA WEC competitors found their rhythm over the first four hours of track time within the class of 25 entries.
  • In LMGTE Pro, Porsche GT Team’s Frederic Makowiecki was the meat in a Corvette sandwich – the Frenchman’s No.91 911 RSR being just 0.027s off p1!
  • Darren Turner’s Aston Martin Vantage was in 4th ahead of the WEC’s other competitors from Porsche, Ferrari, Ford plus his AMR team mates.
  • Porsche also led the way in LMGTE Am, with Matteo Cairoli getting to grips with the 13.629km track very quickly, putting the No.77 Dempsey Proton Racing 911 RSR at the top with a time of 3:59.117.
  • 0.16s separated the top three in class, with three different marques in the top four.
  • Another four hours of testing will begin at 14h00 local time.
