24H Le Mans: Balance of Performance LMP1
“The FIA Endurance Commission plays a key role in finding the right balance between the technical rules, the issues of safety and the right level of entertainment, so as to encourage this world championship to operate within the right framework and encourage more competitors to participate.”
The words above of Jean Todt, President of the FIA, are central to the decisions made by the Endurance Committee, the most recent of which concerns the adjustment of performance between different types of engine and hybridization in the LMP1 category.
At the 24 Hours of Le Mans on 22nd/23rd June all petrol-engined cars – hybrid or non-hybrid - will profit from an increased fuel capacity of 3 litres compared to that which was available to them at the recent WEC round at Spa. This change will be relevant to Toyota Racing’s two TS030 Hybrid entries, as well as the two Lola B12/60 Coupé-Toyotas from LMP1 Privateers Rebellion Racing and the single Strakka Racing HPD ARX03C-Honda.
There are no changes affecting the hybrid diesel-engined LMP1 Audi e-tron quattros.
