Another podium finish for Krohn Racing at Le Mans

The Krohn Racing team showed once again that it a force to be reckoned with in the LMGTE Am class with a third podium finish out of seven appearances. This allows the third placed American team to leave Le Mans in second place in the LMGTE Am standings of the FIA World Endurance Championship, scoring double points for the 24 hour race.

The team created by Texas oil tycoon Tracy Krohn, actually took the points for second place in the category since the French team, IMSA Performance Matmut, second in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, are not participating in the World Championship. After a fifth place at the 12 Hours of Sebring and seventh place at the WEC 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps (but points for fifth place because two competitors were not entered in the Championship), the American team won its first podium of 2012.

Le Mans has been successful for the distinctive green and blue liveried team: a second place in 2007 and a third in 2009. The trio of Niclas Jönsson, Tracy Krohn and Michele Rugolo was far from being the fastest on the track, but at Le Mans, to be there at the finish means avoiding making major mistakes, as explained by Tracy Krohn: “That was just really not easy. That was a hard race! The team was just terrific. We had some track issues. I had a couple of them but we survived all that. We just kept on going and that’s what you have to do to finish this race. We’ve come here and every time we’ve finished we’ve been on the podium so that’s the key thing. You cannot get anywhere here unless you finish. he last lap was amazing! It was really fun. The marshals were all over the track. It was a sight!."

The Krohn Racing team is now 30 points behind Larbre Competition, winner at Le Mans last weekend. Since 25 points are awarded for a win, The American team must now be flawless in the remaining rounds, to retain a chance of winning the trophy for best team in LMGTE Am at the end of the season.
