Full Live Race TV Coverage for US Fans on Fox Sports 2
On Saturday 20 September 2014 the second half of the 2014 FIA World Endurance Championship (FIA WEC) will get underway with the 6 Hours of Circuit of The Americas in Austin, Texas. For the first time American endurance racing fans will be able to watch the FIA WEC live on a major US network as Fox Sports 2 will show the entire six hour race as it happens from start to finish.
The race will start at 6:00pm ET/ 5:00pm CT, with the large field of Le Mans Prototypes and Grand Tourers racing into the Texan night. The chequered flag will be shown six hours later at midnight ET/ 11:00pmCT, with the entire race being broadcast live.
The 6 Hours of COTA will be the highlight of the Lone Star Le Mans event, the first race for the FIA World Endurance Championship since the 24 Hours of Le Mans in France in June. In the world’s most famous sportscar race Audi triumphed over Toyota and Porsche, but Toyota still leads the world championship after taking wins in England and Belgium earlier in the season.
Porsche returned to the top flight of endurance racing after 16 years and finished on the podium at Silverstone in England, and led at Le Mans until technical troubles forced it out of contention. But the German manufacturer, which has won the 24 Hours of Le Mans more times than any other manufacturer and has a star line up of drivers including Australia’s Mark Webber, will be looking to Texas for its debut win in the FIA WEC.
In the LMGTE category it is Ferrari versus Aston Martin versus Porsche versus the pride of the United States, Corvette. Reigning World Champions Ferrari is leading the title race but will have to contend with Corvette on home soil, with the Americas looking for revenge after losing out to the Italians at Le Mans.
“Having a major TV network broadcast the 6 Hours of COTA live is very exciting and a big step forward in the promotion of the FIA World Endurance Championship brand in the USA,” said Gérard Neveu, CEO of the FIA WEC. “The USA is a very important market to us and our partners and it is a reflection of the growing interest in endurance racing that the US round of the FIA WEC will have live TV coverage on Fox Sports 2. We are looking forward to traveling to Texas to start the second half of the FIA WEC season in just over one week’s time.”
The FIA World Endurance Championship takes place over eight rounds in England (Silverstone), Belgium (Spa-Francorchamps), France (Le Mans), USA (Circuit of the Americas), Japan (Fuji), China (Shanghai), Bahrain (Bahrain International Circuit) and Brazil (Interlagos).
