Lamborghini completes first testing session with SC63 Hypercar

The Lamborgini SC63 Hypercar expected to compete in next year’s FIA WEC season  started its development programme at Imola last week.

Lamborghini Iron Lynx completed a major step of its exciting Hypercar journey last week at Imola, as the brand-new Lamborghini SC63 made its testing debut in a successful two-day session on Emilia-Romagna’s famed track.

The legendary Italian manufacturer unveiled their spectacular new car at Goodwood’s Festival of Speed last month. The SC63 is due to compete in the Hypercar class of the FIA WEC and in the GTP class of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship in 2024.

Following a first positive shakedown at Vallelunga earlier this month, Lamborghini Iron Lynx chose the Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari for the SC63’s testing debut for a two-day session. Lamborghini Squadra Corse engineers began calibration work on the all-new Hypercar challenger alongside Lamborghini’s factory supported IMSA and WEC team, Iron Lynx.

“It’s the first time that we’re involved in such a big project starting from scratch”, revealed Iron Lynx Team Principal and CEO Andrea Piccini. “There are many people working together and the first task is to create the right atmosphere and build a team.”

According to Andrea Piccini, the factory drivers involved in the development of the splendid Lamborghini SC63 reported a general positive feeling at the wheel of the SC63. Last week, Mirko Bortolotti, Andrea Caldarelli et Daniil Kvyat have shared the Hypercar’s driving seat at Imola, totalling 1500 kilometres in two days.

The three drivers worked on a variety of calibrations across the session, most notably on the V8 engine. Lamborghini Iron Lynx also collected valuable data on the SC63’s electronic systems, aerodynamic and cooling systems.

“We didn’t have any major issue so far”, added Andrea Piccini. Step by step we’re driving longer stints, learning the car and getting faster. Still a long way to go, a lot of debugging and development needed, but the first impression is definitely positive!”

Throughout the rest of August, Lamborghini Iron Lynx’s testing programme for the SC63 will continue at a sustained pace with two further European testing sessions at Paul Ricard and Spa-Francorchamps.
