Mighty send off for a mighty car
Rarely does a car earn the right to such an affectionate nickname, but the No.38 JOTA Sport Gibson 015S has more than deserved its unofficial moniker of ‘Mighty 38’.
Rarely does a car earn the right to such an affectionate nickname, but the No.38 JOTA Sport Gibson 015S has more than deserved its unofficial moniker of ‘Mighty 38’.
Originally known as the Zytek Z11SN, the car first appeared in JOTA’s hands in the 2012 European Le Mans Series with Sam Hancock and Simon Dolan.
Through the years it has proved to be a venerable mount for many of the best young talents, including Oliver Turvey, Mitch Evans, Filipe Albuquerque and Harry Tincknell.
Since its debut in 2012 the car has taken eight class victories, 12 other podium placings and 12 pole positions.
Its day of days came in 2014 with a fairytale victory at Le Mans. Simon Dolan, Harry Tincknell and Oliver Turvey fought back against the odds after early issues to secure the LMP2 crown.
A year later the car made a winning cameo appearance at Spa with Dolan, Tincknell and Mitch Evans taking a well-deserved victory.
The impressive chapter of achievements culminated with a perfect ending last season when Dolan, Tincknell and Giedo van der Garde took two race wins on the way to the 2016 ELMS title.
Today at Spa the successful old gave way to the successful new as JOTA Sport, the operational arm of the Jackie Chan DC Racing squad took part in a proud and fitting photograph at arguably the greatest corner in the world – Eau Rouge.
Harry Tincknell passing the 'key' to success over to Jackie Chan DC Racing's Ho-Pin Tung.
