New LMP2 engine for 2017 revealed

The new Gibson Technology GK428 engine, which will power all LMP2 cars in the FIA World Endurance Championship in 2017, was unveiled at the Automobile Club de l’Ouest’s annual press conference today.

Gibson Technology will be the sole engine supplier for this category for cars entered for the Le Mans 24 Hours, the FIA World Endurance Championship, the European Le Mans Series, the Asian Le Mans Series (2019) and the WeatherTech SportsCar Championship – if the latter chooses to use it.

The first examples of the 4.2 litre, 600 bhp V8 engines are being produced right now, and four will be available from the middle of August to support the testing schedule of the four selected chassis manufacturers in preparation for the 2017 season (Dallara (Italy-United States), Onroak Automotive (France), ORECA (France-United States) and the joint-venture Riley Tech/Multimatic (USA, Canada and the United Kingdom).
