The ACO and FIA today confirmed changes to the LMP1 non-hybrid technical regulations with the aim of trying to close the gap to the factory hybrid entries and make THE category more attractive to privateer entrants.

Among the key elements is the introduction of a drag reduction system (DRS) for the rear wing for 2018, the full details of which will be confirmed in due course.

More immediately, the regulations for 2017 will include:

·         Minimum weight reduced to 830 kg

·         A single fuel flow metre

·         Removal of the torque metre

·         No limitation on the number of engines used over the course of the FIA WEC season

·         No limit on cubic capacity

·         Increase in the size of the rear wing and front bodywork

The aim is for the current chassis rules to be kept in place for the next three years to amortize costs. All proposals will be put before the World Motorsport Council for ratification.
