OAK Racing final testing before Spa-Francorchamps
All day today, OAK Racing was in practice session before the second round of the FIA World Endurance Championship, which will take place on the 5th Mayat Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium. On the Bugatti circuit at Le Mans, the team tested its three cars, the LMP1 and two LMP2, all three are entered in the 24 Hours of Le Mans 2012.
The climatic conditions of the test day were not ideal. The heavy rain yesterday have made the track wet for the start of the day and although it dried out during the day, it was not optimal. The test still allowed them to evaluate various technical points, but unfortunately the LMP1 could not run the full day because of an engine problem.
This practice session was the last before the 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps, the OAK Racing aims for the podium in LMP2 and for the LMP1 to finish the race. Sebastien Philippe, team manager, admitted to being a little disappointed by the weather this session, but he is confident for the next challenge.
Bas Leinders, new driver of the Morgan team, was able to drive the 2012 LMP2 #5, which will be the third car run by OAK Racing in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. It will also start the 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps with the #24 LMP2. "I am delighted to be with OAK Racing and able to race at Spa and Le Mans 24 Hours. At Spa, it is my home race but in six hours a lot of things can happen, hopefully a podium finish. " Confided the Belgian driver in returning to the pits.
