New age of Russian motorsport as BR1 LMP1 is revealed for 2018/19 WEC

In front of the international motorsport community and media at the final round of the 2017 FIA WEC season in Bahrain, Russian company BR Engineering has presented its new BR1 LMP1 prototype which will be available for entry in the 2018/19 WEC Super Season.

The presentation of BR1 was attended by many VIPs including Boris Rotenberg, founder and head of BR Engineering; Pierre Fillon, President of the ACO; Gérard Neveu, FIA WEC CEO; Luca Pignaca, Dallara chief designer; Dmitry Samorukov, SMP Racing CEO; and Russian motorsport development program SMP Racing drivers: Mikhail Aleshin, Vitaly Petrov and Matevos Isaakyan.

It is planned that the Russian racing car will compete in LMP1 category next year in the hands of SMP Racing.  The team is aiming for two entries with a strong driver line-up to compete for the highest positions in the championship. 

BR Engineering, in collaboration with renowned Italian sports car manufacturer Dallara, has created a completely new carbon fibre chassis which can be married to an engine from any of several suppliers including AER, Gibson and Mecachrome.

BR Engineering is the first chassis manufacturer to publicly present a car which meets the new LMP1 Private Team regulations. The Russian company has already signed a contract for the production of the BR1 prototype for the DragonSpeed team which recently announced its intention to participate in LMP1 class of the FIA WEC.
