What the Driver’s said on Friday at Silverstone.....
Key characters from the entry list for the 6 Hours of Silverstone spoke to the world's media today. Here is some of what they had to say.
Nick Tandy – Porsche Team
“For a start Silverstone is not only my home circuit but also a great track. Especially in these cars it is something really special and there is so much enjoyment and being a local race to me it is a very special weekend for me personally and it is a great way for the whole FIA World Endurance Championship to start. It is an iconic circuit and I can’t wait for the race on Sunday.”
Jose-Maris Lopez – Toyota Gazoo Racing
“First of all I am very happy to be here in the WEC. I am really enjoying every single second of it so far. The preparation has been good and actually started more than a year ago with testing . I think we have done a good job but now is the time we start to learn new things like running in traffic, etc. so I am trying to learn but I will do the best for my teammates and the team.
“It is difficult to say how it will play out over the weekend as I haven’t that much experience so far. We will see who has made the right decision (on aero packages) this weekend but at the moment we are trying to work hard on the car and how it will perform with the higher aero package.”
Jean-Eric Vergne – CEFC Manor TRS Racing
“I’m really happy to be here in endurance and I have been wanting to be compete here for a while. It feels good to be here in the paddock and it is a nice atmosphere with a good level of drivers so I am very happy.
“Concerning the preparation so far it has been non-existent for me as I only had a few laps at Rockingham this week and some this morning. So everything is new for me – the car, the team and how the championship is working so I have a lot on my plate but the car is really good, a lot of downforce and power, really enjoyable.
“I always knew there were good drivers here in the WEC and the level is very good and one of the highest in motorsport in the world.”
Alex Lynn – G-Drive Racing
“In terms of comparing the LMP2 cars from last year and this year there is actually not too much you actually can compare. They are so much faster as we have seen so it is almost a completely different category from last year to this year. There is huge grip and power from the previous car and there has also been big steps made with the Dunlop tyres.”
“I think we have a really strong car and crew at G-Drive Racing. Pierre (Thiriet) is probably the strongest silver in the field and Roman is very experienced and competitive. It is a strong year with a quality field and there are some top, tops teams so I think it will be difficult to call which way it is going to go.”
Harry Tincknell – Ford Chip Ganassi Racing
“This time last year it was the Ford GTs first ever race in WEC, so this year everything is a little better prepared.
“In the WEC with the level of competition and with the BoP too it is hard to know where you will be in the order.
“Overall I think it has been a positive winter with the Daytona 24 Hour win and the second at Sebring and the test we have done points to a lot of positives. We will be attacking from the start and we want to challenge for the championship this season.”
