Welcome to Austin - home of Circuit of The Americas
The fourth round of the 2014 FIA World Endurance Championship is much anticipated by teams, drivers and fans alike, not least because it will take place at the superb sports and entertainment complex of Circuit of The Americas in Austin, Texas.
Built on a 1,000 acre site in southeast Austin, the 3.427-mile (5.515 km) state-of-the-art, purpose-built circuit opened to wide acclaim in 2012 and has now twice hosted the F1 United States Grand Prix. With an elevation change of 133 feet, the facility is designed for any and all classes of racing and both track and facilities have been highly praised not only by the international sportscar community, but also by F1, MotoGP and V8 Supercars.
The FIA WEC’s 6 Hours of Circuit of The Americas headlines next weekend’s Lone Star Le Mans festival of sportscar racing which includes the penultimate round of the 2014 Tudor United Sportscar Championship. With a feast of off-track entertainment also available, COTA is where the motorsport action is going to be in Texas, beginning on track from Thursday, 18th September.
Located in Central Texas, Austin is the State capital and the 11th largest city in the United States of America (4th largest city in Texas). The city has a wide range of cultural, academic institutions and businesses and is viewed as a very cosmopolitan place to live or visit – with many different types of restaurants, bars and diverse nightlife. The city is also home to development centres for many technology corporations, adopting the nickname “Silicon Hills" in the 1990s. However, the current official slogan promotes Austin as "The Live Music Capital of the World", a reference to the many musicians and live music venues within the area.
