Anthony Davidson: "The WEC is the best thing for endurance racing."

Anthony Davidson will be making his fifth start in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, but he has never won the race. A former Peugeot Sport driver, the Briton is now a part of the Toyota squad. He won’t be a part of the full-year FIA World Endurance Championship unlike his team mates in the No.7 sister car.

“When I was a child and doing go-karts, I was focused on Formula 1 and I’d never have imagined that I’d one day be part of the 24 Hours of Le Mans. I came for the first time in 2003 with the Prodrive Ferrari, but I didn’t enjoy it because the car didn’t suit my driving style. Moreover, I was too young to understand the heritage of this race. I started to like Le Mans when I came back in 2009 with Peugeot because I really enjoy driving an LMP1 on this race track. From that moment on, victory at the 24 Hours became my biggest goal and I envy Alex (Wurz) and Ton (Kristensen), who have both won several times. I am so desperate to win this race.”

“I’m not competing for the World Championship title this year, but it’s obvious that Le Mans had to be part of the WEC as it is one of the three biggest races in the world with the Monaco Grand Prix and the Indy 500. The WEC is the best thing for endurance racing. If I had to choose between a victory at Le Mans and a World Championship title, I think that I would pick Le Mans, but it’s very close.”
