Host of new Hypercars revealed ahead of 2021 WEC season
Next year will usher in a brand new era for the FIA World Endurance Championship as it makes way for the new-for-2021 Hypercar category.
Toyota, ByKolles and Glickenhaus have all confirmed they will compete in next year’s Hypercar class with Peugeot Sport set to join the grid from 2022 with its new 508 model.
Ahead of last weekend’s 24 Hours of Le Mans, a customised development version of Toyota’s new GR Super Sport Hypercar completed a demonstration lap by making its first track debut moments before the race start.
In association with their long-term partners TOTAL, Peugeot will bring its four-wheel drive, 500kW 508 to the WEC. Below are the images that the marque released in an announcement made at last week’s 24 Hours of Le Mans.
Elsewhere, ByKolles Racing also revealed imagery last week of how its 2021 Le Mans Hypercar will look.
Having been part of the WEC for several years with the Enso CLM P1/01 chassis, the Austrian squad will commit to the new category next year with an all-new design. Last week, the squad revealed three different versions of what is currently balled as “PMC Project LMH” including a road car version.
Finally, Glickenhaus has also announced it will field two Hypercars in 2021. The Glickenhaus chassis, dubbed SCG 007, has been developed by the Italian firm Podium Advanced Technologies. The team will use a naturally aspirated V8 developed by the French engine builder Pipo Moteurs.
